What is the difference between general English courses and Business English?
There are indeed a few differences between our General English and Business English courses, regarding the level requirements, content and use.
Difference in level requirements
Regarding the levels, general English is available in all levels, from A1 to C1.4. Business English, however, is available for strong beginner or intermediate learners. If you would like to start learning English from the beginning now, we advise you to choose our General English course first.
You can see the first classes of our Business English course in the screenshot below. It immerses you in the heart of the business world!
If you're not sure of your level, you can take a level test here.
Differences in content
Business English courses focus on language of economics, the workplace and your career. Some example Business English classes are 'Speaking in a meeting', 'Negotiating', 'Talking on the phone', and many more.
The general English courses cover all areas of English, for all situations, with no speciality in any area.
Both courses have a communication focus, giving you real-life English practice. Both will develop your speaking, listening, grammar and reading skills.
Which one do I need?
If you need English for your career, we would recommend a Business English course.
If you need English for travelling, a visa, speaking with friends and family, or other everyday situations, then a general English course is for you.
Need a certificate?
We do not provide a certificate of participation for the Business English Course, because our Business English course modules do not correspond to a particular level from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Therefore, if you want to earn a B1, B2, etc certificate, you will need to select a general English course.
